Tamalyn Dallal, internationally acclaimed Middle Eastern dancer was in the Bellydance Superstars, first belly dance instructor of Amar Gamal and Bozenka, founded The Mid Eastern Dance Exchange, Miami Beach, and wrote books- Belly Dancing for Fitness; instructional/ health benefits of Mideastern dance, They Told Me I Couldn't; bellydancing in Colombia, and 40 Days and 1001 Nights; life in the Muslim world. This reknown Oriental dancer lived in 5 Islamic countries and wrote a book about life in Banda Aceh, Sumatra, and Java, Indonesia , the Siwa Oasis of Egypt , Zanzibar , Jordan , and Xinjiang , China to better understand the Muslim world. The project included a documentary film, Oriental dance DVD, & CD featuring the Ikhwani Safaa Musical Club of Zanzibar- an Arab, African version of the Buena Vista Social Club. Islam spread beyond the Middle East to West Africa, North Africa, East Africa, Central Asia, and South East Asia . This female writer, a modern Scheherezade, used her skills as a bellydancer and love of of the Mideast in a book that covers anthropology, music, exotic foods, religion, spirituality, magic, djinns (genies), veiled women, environmental issues, and globalization.
