AMERICAN HISTORY REINVENTED
Warren Neidich's American History Reinvented, 1986-1991, investigates photographic history and the photographic archive to examine the power relations that act to sculpt it. Using methods such as reenactment, rephotography, retouching, appropriation and staging he creates an alternative photographic history as a means of resistance. Historic photographic techniques like platinum printing, albumen printing and tin types are combined with more current techniques like Resin Coated paper and large scale Polaroid prints to comment on the means through which the materials of photographic processes are reflected in photographic meaning and the act of photographic historitization.
