Welcome to the Ar Ais Arís Buncrana Traditional Arts Festival Website
The town of Buncrana, in the north of the Inishowen peninsula, Co. Donegal will host its first traditional arts festival from March 31st-April 2nd, 2006. Few towns in Ireland can compare with Buncrana in terms of the amount and quality of musical talent is has yielded over the years. To recognise this, Ar Ais Arís, Buncrana's Traditional Arts Festival has been created as a celebration of the wealth of talent to emerge from the area. The inaugural festival will be a homecoming of sorts for the many musicians, singers and dancers who were born and reared in the town and its environs, and who now rank among the top artists perfroming internationally. The festival programme will cram in over a dozen events (concerts, recitals, ceili, workshops, traditional masses, late night gigs, workshops, lectures) as well as a session trail with traditional music and song available in local pubs all through the weekend and featuring top musicians from all over Ireland, the UK and the USA
Buncrana's homegrown artists who will be performing in concert during the Ar Ais Arís festival include: Dinny McLaughlin, Dermot Byrne (Altan), Ciaran Tourish (Altan), Kevin Doherty (Four Men and a Dog), PV O'Donnell, Paul Rodden, Simon Bradley, Liz Doherty, Jimmy McBride and theInishowen Singer's Circle and many more. Guests include Phil Coulter, Arty McGlynn, Steve Cooney, Tommy Peoples and Mairead Ní Mhaonaigh. Over 100 top musicians, singers and dancers from all over Ireland, the UK, and the USA will also be in Buncrana to particpate in workshops and the giant session trail.
