Peter Tenbült Photography-PhotoBlog: Nechisar National Park, This National Park which is a part UNESCO, is located near Arba Minch in the south-west of Ethiopia. Nechisar means 'white grass', I think this is a suitable name for it because everywhere you look there is white grass around you. The 'Bridge of God' is also found here this is a narrow strip of land between lake Abaya and lake Chamo.

The 2008 edition of The Thousand Stars Festival of Music and Dance will be staged from
13th to 15th December 2008,
Arba Minch town, Southwest Ethiopia.
Representing traditional music and dance of over 56 groups from the heart of the Rift Valley including Special Guests from Northern Kenya.
This is a free event celebrating the cultural diversity of the Rift Valley Region. See video here.
Every year in mid December something extraordinary takes place in the beautiful lakeside town of Arba Minch in Southern Ethiopia
The 1000 Stars Festival is a vibrant and colourful celebration of cultural diversity. It's a unique opportunity to experience, first hand, the varied culture and music of an exceptional part of our world.
2007 saw in the Ethiopian millennium. As part of Ethiopia's millennium celebrations, over 1000 performers representing more than 56 ethnic groups from all over the south of Ethiopia (see below) performed in Arba Minch. Many came from very remote areas. The event attracted well over 50,000 visitors.
Organised by Gughe Indigenous Art and Music Association (GIAMA) and funded by The Christensen Fund this unique Festival has quickly become one of Africa's most renowned celebrations of cultural diversity.

Ato Keta has been a leader in different governmental organisations over the last 13 years. He is experienced in community organisation and mobilisation. He has a BA in economics from the Civil Service College, Addis Ababa and MA from the University of Bangalore, India. Most recently, he has served as project co-ordinator for the Culture and Art Society of Ethiopia. He was in charge of the Chencha Handicraft Project in the Gamo highlands.

One of the founding members of GIAMA, Temesgen was appointed Program Officer in 2007. He has worked for non profit organisations as Program Officer, Project and Training Officer, and community based institutions expert for the last 6 years. He has a BA in Economics from Addis Ababa University.

Based in London, Nico is a documentary film maker and photograper. Back in 2003, with the aim of increasing awareness and celebrating the unique cultural and bio-diversity of Southern Ethiopia's Rift Valley region, The Christensen Fund of Palo Alto California stewarded by Dr Wolde Gossa Tadesse (Program Officer for the African Rift Valley), funded Ethiopia's SNNPRS Culture Bureau to stage the first of a series of Festivals celebrating the music and dance of the area. Events were staged in several zonal centres and in Addis Ababa helping to generate local and national interest.
In 2005, The Christensen Fund made two grants to organise and stage the Festival as an annual event to be held in the Rift Valley at the town of Arba Minch. The UK charity Global Music Exchange was invited to manage the staging, recording and promoting of the Festival and SNNPRS Culture Bureau were invited to provide logistical and organisational support for Festival performers.With the help of local craftsmen, Andie Main of GME designed and built the stage from sustainable materials sourced locally. Along with Arba Minch based camera-man Assefa Befetary, film-maker Nico Lewis produced a 20 minute film about the event. Martin Cradick of GME recorded and mixed the sound. A CD and DVD is available
This years' Festival is organised by Gughe Indigenous Art and Music Association (GIAMA).
The Festival will be held in Arba Minch 13-15 December 2008.
