MBG: Shaw Nature Reserve
Shaw Nature Reserve, an extension of the Missouri Botanical Garden, includes 2,500 acres of natural Ozark landscape and managed plant collections. Located 35 miles southwest of St. Louis in Gray Summit, Missouri, it provides environmental education, ecological research and public enjoyment of the natural world.

Original Pacific Northwest Contemporary designed by Hope Foote, head of the Interior Design Department at the UW School of Art 1925-67 as her own home. She is credited with the invention of this local version of the modernist style which blends modern, clean lines with Far Eastern influences, while focusing on sensitivity to light and natural beauty accented by muted colors. The designer purchased one of the last remaining wooded sites in the neighborhood and strolled, picnicked and camped on it for several years before beginning construction. Foote revered nature and insisted that horse and hand-operated equipment be used for excavation, so not to disturb the vegetation.
