Snowflake is the underdog story of a young white woman from the suburbs struggling to make it in the gritty underground hip-hop scene in Boston. Jesse Ashton is a 21 year old college drop out floundering between an indie record store and her mother’s law firm. Coming from a family of means and secrets, the silver spoon in Jesse’s mouth has her silenced. But no more. She has to decide between what her parents expect of her and what she really wants: a chance at the limelight. Jesse’s dream of becoming a rapper is a transformation that her family cannot understand. Her performance grabs the attention of local hip-hop producer, Big Moe and he offers her an opportunity as his next star…but at what cost? Between her overprotective mother, Rose, and her controlling father, Gerald, Jesse is becoming as much a stranger at home as she is in the clubs. Ridiculed by established local rappers and booed off the stage by unforgiving audiences, Jesse finds herself alone and an outcast on both sides of her suburban and urban lifestyles. Now, as tensions rise and jealousy turns to violence, Jesse must decide if her love of music can overcome prejudices on both sides and conquer all. When the stage is dark and a thousand eyes fall on you like disapproving spotlights, you can cower to the floor…or rise up and follow your voice.
