The Center for Autism Research (CAR) is a multi-faceted center that coordinates and supports research on autism spectrum disorders (ASD) at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the University of Pennsylvania. One goal of the research at CAR is to understand the root of these differences - why and how children with an ASD differ from one another and how those differences translate into different treatment needs and developmental courses. To do this, CAR brings together internationally renowned scientists and clinicians from the fields of epidemiology, genetics, health services, neurobiology, neuroscience, neuropsychology, nursing, pediatrics, psychiatry, psychology, radiology, and social work. These individuals contribute to a broad-based research program aimed at fundamental discoveries into the causes of autism. Research is based on the belief that effective treatments will follow from a better understanding of causal mechanisms.
