Living Mountain Art HDR Photography by Brody Guion
Welcome to Living Mountain Arts, a site dedicated to capturing the natural beauty that we are surrounded by every day but rarely get to appreciate. My name is Brody Guion, and I currently live in Lyons, CO were I am fortunate enough to have the Rocky Mountains as my backdrop. Most of my photos are taken in HDR (High Dynamic Range) because of my passion to capture a moment in time as I remember it. I was first introduced to HDR photography, like so many others, by my cousin Trey Ratcliff. For the past 7 years or so I have been drooling over what he is able to do with HDR photography. The scenes he is able to recreate inspired me to try my hand at it as well. For the past 7 years I have been a Large Format Printer and have printed off millions of dollars of work for others, but never myself. Seeing hundreds of photos in print I think helped to give me an eye for composition and lighting. I think the most important thing to me about my work is that it has to be dramatic. To me good art is something that grabs your attention and doesn't let go, it engages your curiosity and draws you in. In landscape photography the sky, clouds, and sun mix together to really help set the scene. By using HDR photography I am able to capture scenes that would not be possible using traditional techniques.
Using my years of experience as a large format printer, I put all this knowledge to use when outputting my own work as well as top of the line equipment. I just bought an 60" Epson GS 6000 printer, which utilizes 8 colors of an eco solvent ink which not only provide an enormous color gamut, but also an archival life that far surpasses all of Epson’s other printers. The prints coming off this thing will last in direct sunlight for 3 years before it even starts to fade, so indoors these prints will virtually last forever.
