Paint Creek Scenic Trail - A West Virginia Scenic Byway/Backway
The Paint Creek Scenic Trail is a scenic byway that travels 44 miles between between Beckley and Hansford, West Virginia. The Trail exists to encourage the understanding and enjoyment of Paint Creek’s natural, historic, and cultural heritage. Paint Creek tells a fascinating story rich with the history of coal mining, farming, and Native Americans. The Trail passes numerous historical sites that include former company towns, coal camps, farmhouses, and a variety of historic structures and monuments. Along Paint Creek, visitors will experience some of West Virginia's finest natural scenery. The Trail parallels Paint Creek for most of its length and offers spectacular views of waterfalls, cliffs, and scenic vistas. Fishing is available at several locations along Paint Creek, and the intimate roadway presents many opportunities for bicyclists. The Paint Creek Scenic Trail represents a joint effort between the Upper and Lower Paint Creek Watershed Associations.
