Carol Trammel's Encaustic Wax Paintings: Home: Zazzle.com Store
I am a UNIX geek by day and an Encaustic Wax artist the rest of the time.
I melt blocks of colored beeswax onto the heat surface of a special iron that doesn't have any steam holes and then I actually paint the image using the iron itself. There are no actual paints or paintbrushes used in my work.
I do have a stylus for drawing lines with - it looks like a soldering iron but at a much lower temperature. It has a channel in the tip that the wax melts up into and then I can draw with it. Images you see like trees and castles are done with the stylus.

Carol Fletcher Travel and Portrait Gallery
“The only things I own which are still worth what they have cost me are my travel memories...the mind-pictures of places which I have been hoarding like a happy miser.” Burton Holmes
*** *** ***
A little bit about my photography:
I bought my first Nikon when I was 19. And I started to travel not long after. Photographs are souvenirs to me and taking pictures is my idea of a day well spent. During Chicago's long, cold winters, I spend many happy hours processing and fiddling with images in my digital darkroom. Photographs often travel from film negatives or slides, to prints, to digital scans a few times--as I add textures, make image transfers, or hand-tint.
Cameras:
Nikon D700, Nikon D80, Nikon F100, Nikon FG20, Holga, Polaroid Land Camera, Rolleicord, Seagull TLR, Brownie Hawkeye, Baby Brownie Special
Lenses: 50mm/f1.4, 85mm/f1.4, 24-70mm/f2.8, 14-24mm/f2.8, 105mm/f2.8,70-200mm/f2.8, Lensbaby Muse
A little bit about me:
I was born and raised in Nashville, but moved to Chicago about 20 years ago. The twang is still with me, but Chicago is in my blood. I love the practical pace of the city and the broad, blue expanse of Lake Michigan.
I like the sound of my dogs snoring, shaking off the cold and their toenails tatting through the house. I'm awestruck before walls of paint sample cards and boxes of crayons. My iPod has the entire collections of U2, Califone, REM, Sigur Ros and Ali Farka Toure. I’m fascinated by airports, take-offs and landings, and flying with the clouds. There is nothing better to me than the first cup of coffee sipped in a still dark morning. I love it when my husband “spins the tunes”--surprising me with old favorites and new findings. I’m thankful for the love of my family and friends, for trees, birds and the beauty of light and magic of nature. And I always smile when the sun warms my face.
I hope you enjoy the site. Thanks for stopping by.
