Culham Apprenticeship Scheme - Introduction
In order to maintain the engineering skills base at technician level, UKAEA Culham Division runs an Advanced Apprenticeship Scheme. The scheme selects and recruits people to undergo a four year training programme based at the Science Centre and at a local college. The scheme follows the standard blueprint of a first year based at a local college, followed by three years of vocational training backed up by academic work on day release to college. The four year course is designed to help people to develop their technical and academic abilities and personal qualities.

Culham Power Academy - Introduction
The IET Power Academy Scholarship programme was setup to help UK industry meet its need for more electrical and power engineering graduates. Nowhere is the requirement for these qualified engineers greater than the development of new, environmentally clean power sources and the fusion research programmes at UKAEAs Culham Science Centre are no exception. Culham Science Centre, only 8 miles from Oxford, is home to two world class fusion research facilities; the Mega-Ampere Spherical Tokamak (MAST), flagship of the UK fusion programme and the Joint European Torus (JET), the world's largest tokamak. This research focuses on harnessing fusion power, the same process that powers the sun and stars, to generate electricity on Earth.
