Fashion Focus will draw attention to the talents of emerging African American fashion designers in the form of a charitable evening composed of a cocktail reception and fashion show. Designers from across the United States will be recruited for the design promise articulated in their collections and featured in a runway show presented in Washington, D.C.
The show will support a charitable and artistic mission. The charitable mission will be met through partnership with three or four local and national charities. The charities will be chosen for their work in the areas of health, education and civic engagement. Each charity will be required to contribute to the marketing efforts of the show. And, each will receive an equal portion of the evening's proceeds.
The artistic mission will be met through aggressive recruitment of national design talent in the fields of women and men's apparel. In the selection process, considerable emphasis will be placed on the broad appeal a designer's collection exudes, as well as excellence in creative design. The hope is to identify designers who could benefit from a national launch of their brand.
