I begin the search for found images with no preconception of subject. Alternating between abstract mark-making and a focused search for content, I intuitively erase and draw or paint a dense web of strokes. This spatial scaffolding ultimately suggests recognizable form. Color often escapes boundaries and freely flows through the images. I take advantage of spontaneous effects and frequently mix media in non-traditional ways. Emerging images come and go until the composition is resolved. In the completed work, a gradual disclosure of image is revealed on successively deeper levels. The dynamic between figures is explored as though captured in a glimpse of memory or dream. Figures caught in everyday tasks express timeless aspects of human experience.
