Sulayman Clark : Author | Speaker | Consultant
Sulayman Clark is a native of Philadelphia and graduated from Cheyney University of Pennsylvania. He subsequently earned a master’s degree from Stanford University and a doctorate degree from Harvard University. He is a former Teaching Fellow at Harvard and served as the Director of the Harvard Graduate School of Education’s Field Placement Office.
Dr. Clark is a university administrator and fund raising consultant with particular expertise in the area of major gift acquisitions and capital campaign planning. His professional interests are in the areas of institutional advancement with a focus on educational and social service initiatives and institutional capacity-building strategies that promote sustainable growth and effective service delivery.
His previous appointments include: Vice President for University Advancement at Tuskegee University, Vice President and Director for the $200 Million Campaign for Hampton University, Vice President for Development at Lincoln University (PA), Vice President for Development at Morehouse College and Vice President for Minority Programs at the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation in Princeton, New Jersey.
Dr. Clark is also a author and educational historian. He was chosen to catalog and index the William H. Dorsey Collection, a rare collection of primary source materials including manuscripts scrapbooks, and memorabilia covering the period, 1840-1913. His recent historical novel entitled, The Rains: Voices for American Liberty, is based on those archival holdings. The Harvard Graduate School of Education (HGSE) accepted with honors, his doctoral thesis entitled, The Educational Philosophy of Leslie Pinckney Hill: A Profile in Black Educational Leadership. This work forms the basis of his forthcoming book entitled, The Manly Paths of Peace. Portions of that dissertation were required reading in HGSE’s core course in the history of American education. He has recently completed a third book entitled, Pathways to Servant Leadership, which traces the psychological development of dynamic leaders who advocate responsible social change.
