When a line talks, sometimes it wiggles nervously. In response, another line runs thinly and infinitely, falling straight off the paper. Joining the discussion, a colour smears itself into a watery surface, as if clumsily wiping away its brightly shaded tears. When a myriad of strokes and contours squiggle and curve, sometimes they talk gibberish. Other times their voices carry memories of our childish dreams, inviting us to explore them again and again, when our daily life seems to be painted with nothing but colourless boredom. When they are really determined, they can create magical landscapes, summoning together a bestiary of imaginary plants, animals and fairy creatures.
Streaks and blotches, patterns and surfaces jointly describe something we commonly call 'a drawing'. The drawings on these pages want to be more then mere marks on (digitized) paper. They speak to us of moments frozen in time, somewhere far in the past, deep in the present, or a long way in the future. Their world is an immense, limitless expanse, with many entrances and just as many exits. Drawn by human hand, injected with a healthy dose of the artist's dream-juice, the cocooncharacters are waiting for you to become a part of their stories, to listen to their songs, join in the gossips, or simply watch them parade in front of you.
