In vivo toxicity screening
Drug safety is of paramount importance in the development of a new therapeutic compound both from economical and regulatory points of view. Current preclinical toxicity assays based on cell models are insufficient and with unsatisfied predictive results, yet use of experimental animal models such as rodents pose an ethical issue. Zebrafish stands out as a strong high throughput model to bridge the gap between cells and mammals. Due to its transparency, small size and its high genetic homology with humans, zebrafish is currently a solid emerging model capable to predict clinical pharmacodynamics behaviors.
ZF BIOTOX aims to add value to the drug discovery screening segment by introducing innovative approaches using the versatile in vivo model of zebrafish.
Genetic selection
Marine fishery stocks face a pessimistic forecast. Climate change will have a direct impact on marine biodiversity and fisheries. Fisheries management will have to adapt to conservation policies to minimize harm to marine life and at the same time the aquaculture industry will require a new development in order to cover social demands.
ZF BIOTOX aims to contribute to this demand by seeking individual candidates and applying genetic selection tools that will lead ultimately to a cost reduction in the production of aquiculture species.
