Mixed migration refers to flows of people including forced migrants and voluntary economic migrants. The Yemen MMTF seeks to ensure that mixed migrants are able to move in a safe and dignified manner, free from human rights abuses during travel and upon arrival to the shores of Yemen, and that the basic needs of these new arrivals are met.
To this end, the Yemen MMTF works to ensure a comprehensive and coordinated response by all concerned stakeholders to the protection and humanitarian needs of refugees, asylum seekers and migrants arriving on Yemen’s shores from the Horn of Africa.
Its objectives are:
Develop an inter-agency strategic framework for effective humanitarian interventions with respect to mixed migration in Yemen
Guide Yemen’s UN country team, International NGO forum and other stakeholders in a comprehensive operational response to the mixed migration flow
Provide information and advice on mixed migration to the Government of Yemen and other stakeholders
Define an advocacy and capacity building strategy focusing on enhancing awareness of and capacity in addressing mixed migration to Yemen
Strengthen inter-country initiatives and promote a regional approach to mixed migration, notably through information sharing and joint planning
