Celebrating Our 75th Anniversary Our family Fresh tradition continues with the Grand Opening of our newly remodeled store. Then... 1936-2011 2011 marks the 75th Anniversary of Cooke's. The first store opened in Flint Springs, Tennessee in 1921. JM and his sons, JD and Carl started the successful Cooke's retail operations on Cleveland's courthouse square in 1936. In 1962 Carl opened a new location on Broad Street, just down from the courthouse location. The store continued its focus on community involved, full service grocery retail, provided by local neighbors. Carl received the MC Headrick Free Enterprise Award for his entrepreneurial spirit and the support of his hometown in 1992. In 1972 Dan Cooke, Carl's son joined the organization and within five years Cooke's had opened up two additional locations - Spring Place Road and Keith Street. In 2006, Dan and his sister Becky became the second generation of Cooke's to receive the MC Headrick Award. Over the years the Cooke's family has continued to recognize the value of serving the community. In return the Cleveland community has allowed us to thrive for 75 years. As another generation of our family serves, by filling this retail niche, we never want to forget our history and the neighbors who allowed us to be a part of their lives. Now...
