I don't know what you've been doing for the past 20 years, but Marla Barreira has been practicing the art of catering and party planning. I'm not saying you've wasted your time, I'm just saying that while you've been home burning your scrambled eggs, Marla has been perfecting her mix of American, Latin, Asian, and Portuguese food and has created a restaurant so delightful that I've actually considered asking for her hand in marriage.
Conveniently located on Abbott Kinney -- one of the few streets in LA on which you can walk and even window shop -- it's a great space; cozy and comfortable with a heated patio, and so quiet and lush, you'll feel like you're on vacation in the other Venice.
Now, I'm going to wait right here, while you go to Marla's website and look at the pictures of her food. I just made her Garlic Shrimp Spaghetti my desktop wallpaper. The menu is so varied --one dish after another, so beautiful and enticing -- there's something for everyone here. Marla even created a "Small Bites" section which features a variety of smaller portions for people who can't commit. I, on the other hand, am not afraid of the "C" word as you are about to see.
Excuse me for a moment people, but I have something important to do. A personal plea to Marla: Marlas, I know we've never met before, but if you're available I would like to ask you to marry me. It's not often I ask someone to marry me based on their cooking - and by "not often," I mean just a couple of times a year - but your menu is something I cannot live without. Your chicken tenders are so tender, your pizza and sandwiches are bewitching and your soft drinks are very soft. I'm sure the name Marla must be short for Marvelous.
If we do get married, I'd even hire you to cater the wedding, and maybe one day in the future we'll have little children's menus of our own. Oh Marla, take me away from all this blurb writing for Voomerang, and in the immortal words of the killer plant from "Little Shop of Horrors," "Feed Me."
So grab this certificate and go to Abbott Kinney; get out of your car and walk yourself right into Marla's Cafe. Go before Marla figures out what a great deal this is, and if you do see her, put in a good word for me.
