One of the oldest and aggressive of the labor unions, the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America has brought together the best of the old and the best of the new to recreate a union that truly represents all workers in our crafts. As a former Muslim woman, I savor the full value of freedom and fight, using my art, to liberate those who are still constrained against their own free will, by fundamentalist traditions of the Islamic faith. My purpose as an artist is to open dialogue on hypocritical and controversial issues, caused by extreme eastern Islamic fundamentalist views within western society, particularly in regards to the suppression of women and children. Being a conceptual realist, I communicate all of my distress and frustration meticulously through multiple media: paint, text, installations, digital designs and 3-dimensional forms, with the intent to not only foster positive change and awareness, but also to give a voice to those who cannot be heard.
