Raanan Tal - Creative Photography. Raanan Tal, Photographer and artist has enthusiastically practiced photography as a way of life since age 15. Since graduating with honors from the Department of Photography at The WIZO Canada College of Design in 1999, he is active in many fields of photography: Magazine work (At, Lady Globes, 42 Degrees, Teva HaDvarim and others). Commercial photography, (Hi-tech firms, Technical Companies). Portraits, Advertising photography for numerous companies and groups. His studio specializes in creating images for marketing various products, with a fresh artistic angle. As part of his personal creativity, Raanan is involved with unique projects around the world. Among the projects: Photography in the town of Lamu, Kenya; The actors from the Schauspilhaus Theater in Vienna; The Puppet Theater Festival in Omsk Siberia; Photography for the designer Anna trzebinski; The Samburu Tribe, Kenya; The people of Nungwi on the island of Zanzibar, Tanzania. In 2008 Raanan was chosen to represent the State of Israel, as part of the Government of Artists under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign affairs for the project Jim Pai Peace, in Dakar Senegal.

SWEET DREAMS - a documentary film
16 years after the devastating genocide in Rwanda, the country’s recovery is still fragile. Rwandan playwright Kiki Katese struggled with how to help heal the deep emotional wounds of her country. She had no power to erase the terrible memories or eradicate the losses. But she did have the power to begin to make change. Inviting women from surrounding villages to an open drumming workshop, Kiki offered a place of safety and healing for women from both sides of the conflict. Each of the group’s members is a survivor of the genocide. Some lost their families; some were raped. Others are wives or children of perpetrators. Through drumming, they found release from their pain and formed strong bonds of connection with one another. And in the process, something altogether new was born – Ingoma Nysha, Rwanda’s first and only professional women’s drumming troupe. In a country where women had not been allowed to drum, this was a radical new development. It soon led to another one. In 2008 when Kiki met the owners of Blue Marble Ice Cream in Brooklyn, NY she asked them to come help the women of Ingoma Nysha open the country’s first local ice cream shop. Though most Rwandans haven’t tasted ice cream, Rwanda is a dairy producing country, with ample supplies of honey and fruit. Ice cream, Kiki argued, is more than a cool treat. In a country where three out of four people live on less than $1.25 a day, it is a both a new way to create desperately needed, sustainable jobs and a symbol of joy and possibility in a country emerging from tragedy.The nightmare of the past and the daily struggles of life weigh so heavily on the spirit of many Rwandans that they have stopped dreaming of a better future. And a country that cannot dream of a better future cannot create one.Sweet Dreams follows this remarkable group of Rwandan women as they emerge from the devastation of the genocide to create a new future for themselves.
