Kevin's Digital Photography | SmugMug
I'm glad you made it to my site. I've been involved in DSLR photography for over 6 years now. It is my greatest hobby and I undoubtedly love to talk about it! Being in college makes it tough to travel or get a variety of motifs, so many of my pictures are taken on vacation. As you can tell my portrait section is rather slim and I just started to learn more about artificial lighting in classes on digital cinematography. At heart I am a nature photographer, but I want to get more practice taking pictures of people. So if you are at all interested in being a model, contact me and I'll take pictures for free.
My first camera was a polaroid that I got when I was 10, but quickly the digital revolution rolled around, so I bought a 1.3 megapixel Sony Cybershot. At the time it was a highly advanced model, but far behind the quality of film and the biggest memory sticks were around 64 megabytes. Today, the technology has progressed to astounding quality, especially for DSLR (digital single lens reflex) cameras. Ever since I purchased a beginner's Canon model (350D) I have been hooked with the series. In general, I highly support Japanese electronics. DSLR enthusiasts know that the two big camera makers Nikon and Canon have a strong rivalry among their users and once you pick either you generally don't switch to the other.
Recently the Canon 5D Mark II was released, which includes HD video capability. It started a DSLR film-making trend because
a) the camera which allows interchangeable lenses is an affordable alternative relative to the starting price of cinema cameras that allow for the same flexibility
b) the shallow DOF (depth of field, i.e. the area that is in focus) lends DSLR cinematography a new unique artistic look - many people are divided on this feature and most traditional filmmakers prefer to have great DOF.
When I purchased a 5D mark II, it was mainly for the superior image quality (over 21 megapixels) and full frame sensor, but the exciting cinematic possibilities recently enticed me to explore video art also. You might soon see my first experimental films on this site.
