CARRINGTON RESERVE HOMEOWNERS' ASSOCIATION - The Carrington Reserve Residential Development been selected by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Chicago Wilderness for a 2010 Conservation and Native Landscaping Award. The award recognizes the use of design techniques to reduce runoff, treat storm water, and promote ground water recharge to sustain high-quality fen and wet prairie habitats. In addition, riffles features built into the creek oxygenate and sustain aquatic life. Also of note is the development's 60 percent open space, protected in perpetuity by a conservation easement. The Conservation and Native Landscaping Awards recognize exemplary native landscaping, ecosystem restoration and protection, and/or conservation design. EPA and Chicago Wilderness support the use of native landscaping and conservation-style development because these practices create habitat for a variety of species and produce important environmental benefits. Through the awards program, we recognize exceptional sites, raise awareness about native landscaping, ecosystem restoration, and conservation development, and encourage others to adopt sustainable practices.
