Charles Gambetta: Conductor - Composer - Author - Educator
Conductor/composer Charles Gambetta currently
teaches at Guilford College and Greensboro College in Greensboro, NC. He earned his
Doctor of Musical Arts degree in conducting from the University of North Carolina
at Greeensboro in 2005. Following three years of distinguished service with the
United States Military Academy Band at West Point, he created a fellowship for
emerging orchestral musicians, the Young American Symphony Orchestra, serving as
its Music Director from 1986-1995. Dr. Gambetta has since served as Music Director
of the Greensboro Symphony Youth Orchestra and Assistant Conductor of the Greensboro
Symphony, the Fayetteville Symphyony and the Philarmonia of Greensboro. In addition
to his work with American orchestras, he has also conducted orchestras in Italy,
Ukraine, Bulgaria and Romania. Known for his ground-breaking research in conductor
training, Dr. Gambetta has developed a revolutionary movement-centered curriculum
for conductors based on the principles of Laban Movement Analysis. Until recently
the Director of Quality Assurance at NOTION Music, he now inspires conducting students
through master classes and workshops in his revolutionary Laban-centered approach to
conducting that emphasizes the underlying qualities and character of conducting
gesture as the most potent aspect of non-verbal communication between conductor and
ensemble.
