Photographers deal in things which are continually vanishing and when they have vanished there is no contrivance on earth which can make them come back again.
-Henri Cartier-Bresson
What I love about photography is being able to capture moments so that others will be able to look back on them forever.
I am a self-taught photographer who has relied on instinct and passion in order to learn. I grew up in Maracaibo, Venezuela where I had the opportunity to travel throughout the country with my family, always recording those special memories through photographs. It is now, later in my life, that I fully understand the importance of those Polaroid and 35mm prints – they allow me to revisit an amazing childhood and will provide great material to share with my daughter as she grows up.
My first camera was a manual 35mm Nikon F from the 1960’s, which I inherited from my uncle in pristine condition. I used it during two college photography courses while learning the basics regarding composition and light. However, my first encounter with developing my own black and white prints occurred my freshman year of high school while working on the yearbook staff. I was hooked, it was love at first sight!
Although my work covers a wide spectrum of styles, I am partial to portrait and documentary style of photography. There is something about capturing human expression that I love. I believe this is an important characteristic when looking for the right photographer to capture important moments in one’s life. After all, it is during those important moments in our lives that time seems to pass us by even faster.
Life is full of amazing moments and I am here to capture them for you so you can just sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride!
Random Facts About Me:
- My middle name is Carolina.
- When people ask me where I am from I don’t always know what to answer. I was born in Boston, but grew up in Maracaibo, Venezuela. My mother is Cuban and was raised in New York City. My father was born and raised in Santiago, Chile.
- When I was little my dream was to become a photographer for National Geographic.
- When I was 8 years old I got stung by a bee during a trip with my parents to a small town in the Andes. The locals told my parents to put chewing tobacco on the bee sting. They did it. It was gross, but it worked. So if you are ever stung now you know what to do.
