What Kind of Work Are We Good At? HOT TOPICS ...... Tax Credits and Utility Company Rebates Federal Income Tax Credits and Utility Company Rebates are available for a lot of the work we do. Reflective roofing materials are eligible for up to a $1,500 tax credit. Some of these are commonly used shingles that cost no more than non-reflective roofs. Windows and doors with a high insulating value are also eligible. High efficiency furnaces, boilers, and air conditioning are eligible for the tax credits and are also eligible for utility company rebates. Renovations with Lead PaintEffective 4/22/10, new EPA regulations require renovation work on pre-1978 homes with lead paint to be performed by a Lead Certified Contractor using Lead Safe procedures to minimize the effects of disturbing lead paint. Structural components of pre-1978 homes are presumed to have lead paint until tested and proven otherwise. If the components test negative for lead, the work can proceed without using Lead Safe procedures, otherwise Lead Safe procedures must be used. Fines for non-compliance can be as high as $32,500 per violation. The only exceptions are small repair work, less than 6 sq. ft. interior and 20 sq. ft. exterior. When replacing windows with lead paint, Lead Safe procedures must be used regardless of the square footage. Ohrt & Goodman is Lead Certified to perform this type of work.
