Difficult Problems
Difficult Problems are problems that face humans today and that are difficult to recognize, to understand, and to solve. Difficult Problems require the tools of science, which means to clearly separate what we know from what we desire or fear and to propose hypotheses that can be, and are, tested with empirical data. Difficult Problems are the problems of the future. Therefore, beyond science, Difficult Problems require radically new ways of thinking and new ideas. But the ancient god that should guide our search is the Roman god Janus who had two faces, one looking to the past and the other to the future.
