The EPA Renovate, Repair and Painting Rule went into effect on 4/22/2010.Named 40 CFR Part 745, this law requires that renovations performed for compensation on pre-1978 homes, must be done by EPA Certified Firms using Certified Renovators. This includes contractors as well as landlords and property managers. The fines for non compliance are up to $37,500 per violation.Firms seeking certification must apply to the EPA and pay a fee. Contractors and others who work on pre-1978 homes, seeking to become a Certified Renovator must successfully complete the EPA approved renovator course. This 1 day 8 hour course explains how to comply with the EPA RRP Rule. Successful completion yields a CERTIFIED RENOVATOR certificate for the attendee.
