clarence ferdinand jewell
Clarence Ferdinand Jewell was a functional alcoholic. He worked to support his family and he loved his wife. When she divorced him he was devastated. Working for the Los Angeles Times he was involved in an automobile accident that nearly killed him. When he recovered he suffered from epilepsy. The drugs that treat epilepsy do not mix well with alcohol. Clarence would begin to drink and take his medication and disappear for weeks at a time. His daughter Carole Dorothy Jewell would look for him, find him, clean him up and take him into her home.
