For the fast few years, the subject matter of my work has been consistently focusing on
the reconstructing identity. Like many other people who moved to an unfamiliar land,
the internal sense of dislocation and identity dominate. The situation of living in New York
forced me to change and reconstruct myself. As an alien, adjusting to new society requires
replacing elements of my viewpoints about world outside which is beyond comforting and
familiarity.
Plaster baby dolls molded from old porcelain dolls have been my long time subject
and material for my artwork. I used them as a representation of myself. With the
experimentation of various mediums such as video, installation, painting and drawing
I have tried to look in myself through the eyes of the dolls. I find myself having constant
curiosity and interest about immatuarity in me, which gives strong motivation to make
works. Also using the connection with other materials and space and people, I try to
express a cynicism and satire between individual and systems of society.
