The official website of Soprano, Jessica House Steward Korean-American soprano, Jessica House Steward, has performed throughout the United States and internationally in opera, concert and recital. Her voice lends itself best to the bel canto repertoire, which showcases her outstanding vocal flexibility, range and warm, yet vibrant timbre. She is equally at home and well suited in the baroque and contemporary genres. Ms. House Steward recently studied the title role of Lucia di Lammermoor under the auspices of The Martina Arroyo Foundation, which culminated in a gala performance of scenes at the Liederkranz Foundation. She sang the role of Célie in Signor Deluso with The Opera Company of Brooklyn and was honored to have the composer, Thomas Pasatieri in the attendance for the performance. While a student at Manhattan School of Music, she performed the roles of Camilla in Caldara’s il Giuoco del Quadriglio at the Mercantile Library in New York City and Sister Mouse in Fink’s Animal Opera as a part of the opera outreach program. Ms. House Steward has also sung roles and gala concerts with Caramoor International Music Festival, One World Symphony, Los Angeles Opera Buffs, Palm Springs Opera Guild and Illinois Opera Theater. Some of her other roles include Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro), Feu (L’Enfant et les Sortilèges), Queen of the Night (The Magic Flute), and Lauretta (Gianni Schicchi). In scene work, she has explored such characters as Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni), Ophélie (Hamlet) and Giulietta (I Capuleti e I Montecchi). Ms. House Steward has been a young artist with Caramoor International Opera Festival in Katonah, NY and Cimarron Circuit Opera in Norman, OK. Ms. House Steward made her Carnegie Hall recital debut in December 2005, singing world premiere vocal works of composer, Gerald Busby in his 70th Birthday Celebration Concert. She collaborated with world-renowned pianist Kenneth Merrill on a vocal recital at Greenfield Recital Hall in New York City in April 2004. For three years Ms. House Steward performed with world-renowned coach and pianist, John Wustman, in his Schubert Song Recital Series. She has also given recitals at the Neues Residenz and St. Mark’s Kapelle in Salzburg, Austria and at All Souls Episcopal Church in Okinawa, Japan. Ms. House Steward has appeared several times as soloist in oratorio and concert settings. This spring she will sing solos in Mozart’s Requiem with the Cayuga Vocal Ensemble in Ithaca, NY. In February 2007 she was a featured soloist in an Evensong Concert at Cathédrale Notre Dame de Paris and in October 2005 she sang J.S. Bach’s Kantate Nr. 51 in a benefit concert for the Global AIDS Interfaith Alliance, all with the Christ Church Bronxville Choir. She sang Haydn’s Creation with the Manhattan School of Music Symphony Ensemble and Chorus and Bach’s B Minor Mass with Sinfonia da Camera. While a student at University of Illinois, she sang Barber’s Knoxville: Summer of 1915 as a winner in the Concerto Competition. Among many honors, Ms. House Steward received the Encouragement Award from the Metropolitan Opera National Council, which she won as a Regional Finalist, the 2nd Place prize in the 2001 National Opera Association Competition and performance awards from The National Society of Arts and Letters, Los Angeles Opera Buffs, Leni Fe Bland Foundation, Theodore Presser Foundation, Santa Barbara Music Club, Performing Arts Scholarship Foundation and Sigma Alpha Iota. She has been a finalist in the Palm Beach Opera and Connecticut Opera Guild vocal competitions. She was invited, as the only American singer, to compete in the 2005 Shizuoka International Opera Competition in Shizuoka, Japan."
