Jeff Leonard Arts
In these paintings, I use a two-part, chemically hardening resin. The resin is pigmented with various inks, paints and tints before I pour it in transparent and opaque layers onto a horizontal wooden panel. I manipulate the resin as it catalyzes until an interesting or intriguing combination of results emerge. I work with many levels of visual space while maintaining an awareness of the flat reality of the surface. I work with elements such as gravity, motion, and focal points, among many others. The grid, for example, continues to hold my attention as an expression of the rational as opposed to the chaos of the organic. I think a lot about the tension between order and disorder.
