Canadian explorer, fur trader and geographer David Thompson and Rocky
Mountain House History
As the 18th century drew to a close the Canadian fur trade pressed westward along the North Saskatchewan River, bringing the rival fur trade companies of the Northwest Company and the Hudson’s Bay Company to Rocky Mountain House, including one of Canadas greatest heroes, the geographer, fur trader and explorer David Thompson. Voyageurs, Cree, Blackfoot, Peigan, Blood, fur traders and missionaries all collided at Rocky Mountain House.
