ES&T is GESâ division for advanced computer-aided analytical services. Professionals at ES&T use visualization techniques to bring abstract concepts, site data, scientific results, and projections into focus in the boardroom, the courtroom, or any forum for critical decision making.
Located in the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center, ES&T has a highly trained technical staff that uses analytical and numerical models to simulate and analyze soil, vapor, and groundwater contamination problems. They help expedite analysis and facilitate the development of a more effective remedial strategy.
To enhance the understanding of complex environmental issues, ES&T produces visualizations that include still or interactive 3-D images of subsurface conditions and animations of NAPL or dissolved plumes over time.

⦠in NAPL analysis. The firm was a key member of the multidisciplined team that developed the LNAPL Interactive Guide of the American Petroleum Institute (API) in 2004. Download this software from the API web site.

Its BaildownSolver software, available through the National Ground Water Association (NGWA), is used to effectively determine the average oil conductivity and transmissivity of the mobile NAPL layer at the test well, using methods endorsed by the API. ⦠in modeling applications. In addition to expertise using commercial and public domain software, ES&T has developed widely-used fate and transport simulation and risk exposure modeling applications including VADSAT, ARMOS, MOFAT, and BIOTRANS.
⦠in visualization of complex issues. Tools include Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to graphically depict spatial and geographic data; database and query applications that integrate 3D surface mapping with Windows applications; modeling programs to simulate and analyze soil, vapor, and groundwater contamination problems; and animations and graphics for use in reports and presentations.
