My temperament inclines me to spend time observing and deliberating, looking for commonalities that can provide impetus for a dialogue between the material and myself as maker. In the manner of an alchemist I explore the internal and the external, paring down experience to essentials that coalesce into forms capable of translation/transmutation. Continually slipping between logic and intuition the work is the distillation of an abstract interior world full of contradictions.
I strive to balance opposites and exercise control over the medium and myself; latent energy and dynamism are captured at a moment of stasis. The work is self-contained and uncompromising, with hints of physicality that invite caress but points of tension that deter; the carefully constructed openings an accent in the tautness of surface and continuity of curves that are neither tight nor over-ripe.
While focussing on the desired end with excitement and passion long enough to imbue an object with these qualities there is utter concentration, full immersion in the act of making, a continuous stream of possibilities lying ahead with one resolution the progenitor of the next.
