This works toward further decentralization and regionalization as reform goals stipulated in negotiations and/or agreements on approximation of beneficiary countries with EU or countries that are EU members already. Course objectives also correspond to recommended investment priorities for reaching the Millennium Development Goals and respond to governance failures and areas of specific policy neglect, as two out of four issues recognized as reasons for shortfalls in achieving MDGs.
Representatives of local communities, national governments (ministries of local self-governance and ministries of environment), representatives of associations of municipalities and towns, regional authorities and members of the business community are invited to apply for this unique training opportunity.
For nationals of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo/a, FYR Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and new EU member states Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary, not representing the business sector a limited number of scholarships (covering course tuition and/or board and lodging and/or travel expenses) will be made available. Scholarship (full or partial) will be awarded on a competitive basis.
This course will take place at the Venice International University, on the island of San Servolo in Venice, Italy from 2 9 November 2008. Participants are required to commit themselves to a total of 7 days.
