Holly Hughes Fine Art
Born and raised on Colorado’s Western Slope, Holly A. Hughes has always had a passion for depicting the world around her. Her preferred media are pen and ink, watercolor, and textile dye. Holly’s artistic style is influenced by ancient designs, traditional botanical paintings, and the Art Nouveau Movement. Holly is also inspired by Persian miniatures and Mughal painting, and this is evident in her designs and compositions. In addition to creating artwork, Holly also has a background in archaeology, ancient history, and dead languages. She received her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in archaeology from Brigham Young University. Holly has made her home in the beautiful city of St. George where she currently works as an archaeologist and a freelance archaeological illustrator, creating technical drawings of artifacts and maps for archaeological publications. Her archaeological expeditions have taken her to Utah, Idaho, Nevada, Colorado, Illinois, Jordan, and Syria. Her experiences at these archaeological sites along with her travels to Egypt and Europe have inspired many of the themes and subject matter in her works. Holly’s artwork can be found in private collections throughout the western United States. It gives her great satisfaction to be able to combine her two passions, archaeology and art.
