Love Winter Hate The Oil Sands
Canada's oil sands have been called the most destructive project on earth. Fuel from the oil sands is the dirtiest in the world, producing three times the global warming pollution as conventional oil. The oil sands extraction and production process requires clear-cutting giant swaths of ancient forest and leaving behind toxic lakes so large they can be seen from space—lakes that kill birds and other wildlife and threaten to poison drinking water in neighboring communities.
If we allow this massive project to creep across our border, it will lock America into dependence on yet another foreign source of oil, just as our local, homegrown clean energy industry is beginning to thrive. It would threaten the good, lasting American jobs that wind and solar and efficiency projects create—the kind of jobs that can't be outsourced.
