Foursquare Gospel Church Somolu District, which was formerly known and called South West Division, came into being in 1980. Specifically in November 1980, the Central Executive Council of Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria made Somolu Church the District headquarters of the new District with Rev. Elkannah Olu Osibanjo appointed the Divisional Superintendent and Senior Pastor. The Division was overseeing all the churches in Lagos and Ogun States which were about thirty three as at 1980. With the able leadership of Rev. Osibanjo, churches were challenged to embark on pioneering new works. This challenge led to the emergence of new churches and several daughter churches in the Lagos area of the District. To the glory of God, in the Ogun State area of the division the work also grew as many other churches were pioneered. Hence by 1984, the South West Central Division (Ogun State) with headquarters at Abeokuta was carved out from the South West District. As the work expanded with many more churches planted, the South West (Lagos State) Division was split again into two by the national leadership in 1989, namely the Lagos District and Agege District with Somolu church and Agege church as district headquarters respectively. Rev. R. O. Owoade became the District Overseer for Lagos District while Rev. Dr. W. A. Badejo was appointed the Agege District Overseer. The Lagos District was renamed Somolu District with the creation of Festac District from it. In 1996, Rev. Adebayo Adebisi took over the leadership of the District from Rev. Owoade. And with the transfer of Rev. Adebisi from the District to Agege District, Rev. Felix Oke assumed the leadership of the District from 2000 2003. Rev. Dr. Idowu Obakin succeeded Rev. Oke as the Somolu District Overseer in February 2003. Rev. Obakin directed the affairs of the District from 2003 to 2010. Today, the substantive District Overseer of Somolu District is Rev. Anthony Chukwudi Nwanma. The District came under the dynamic leadership of Rev. Nwanma from 3rd January, 2010. Rev. Nwanma is a pastor and teacher with a unique gift to communicate and relate biblical truth to everyday experience. You cant have a dull moment under his ministration. Our District Overseer is happily married to a dynamic woman of God, a mother-in-Israel, Rev. (Mrs.) Beatrice Nwanma and they are both blessed with wonderful children.
