The archishack is an environmentally sustainable prefabricated modular house offering many planning and appearance options within a modern and contemporary genre. Most importantly, it has been designed to incorporate a high level of environmental responsiveness whilst addressing the need to be cost effective and affordable. Integral to the design philosophy of the archishack is the efficient use of space. Designed in Tasmania and inspired by the long standing and much loved local shack culture it embodies the essential idea that small is not only beautiful, but smart.
In designing the archishack we have sought to provide flexibility and a sense of space in a compact, energy and cost efficient, ‘green’ and stylish housing solution that can be pre-fabricated and delivered to site quickly and efficiently on budget. The design aims to integrate with the environment through the use of simple but elegant abstract forms, open plans, natural tones and materials, generous use of glass and decks and a clean modernist aesthetic. The archishack combines contemporary modernist design principles with rigorous environmental values in an attempt to deliver a genuinely ‘green’ building solution within the parameters of prefabrication. We have also sought to make an intimate, generous and seamless connection with the outdoors using large expanses of glass able to be moved aside with ease.
