Greek Photographer Georgios Makkas - Γιώργος Μάκκας Φωτογράφος
Georgios Makkas is a professional photographer based in Athens Greece. Born in1977 he start exploring the word with his camera from an early age. He studied photography in ESP, Athens and moved to the UK in 1999 to attend the documentary photography course in Newport, Wales. Awarded one of the 16 young Greek photographers of the year 1998 and in 2002 his documentary project about the depopulation of rural Albania won the first prize in the Observer Hodge photographic award in London. He took part in several private and group exhibitions in the UK (National Portrait Gallery, Hereford Photo Festival, the Newsroom in London) and Greece (Athens Photo Festival, Thessaloniki Museum Of Photography, Rizarios Cultural Centre in Monodendri) and his work is in the permanent collection of the Thessaloniki Museum of Photography. As well as doing his own projects Georgios Makkas is contributing to Greek magazines, photographing for international magazines and work on private commissions. Ο Γιώργος Μάκκας γεννήθηκε στην Αθήνα το 1977 και ασχολείται με την φωτογραφία στην εφηβεία του. Αποφοίτησε από την ESP της Αθήνας το 1999 και τον ίδιο χρόνο μετακόμισε στην Βρετανία για να παρακολουθήσει το τμήμα φωτογραφίας Ντοκουμέντο στο Newport. Το 2002 πήρε το πρώτο βραβείο Observer Hodge για την ενότητα "Βόρεια Ήπειρος - μια εγκαταλειμμένη περιοχή" Το 2004 επέστρεψε στην Ελλάδα για να δει τους Ολυμπιακούς Αγώνες από κοντά. Ο Γιώργος Μάκκας έχει κάνει αρκετές ατομικές εκθέσεις και έχει πάρει μέρος σε ομαδικές στην Βρετανία (National Portrait Gallery, Hereford Photo Festival, the Newsroom in London ) στην Ελλάδα (Athens Photo Festival, Μουσείο Φωτογραφίας Θεσσαλονίκης, Ριζάρειο Εκθεσιακό Κέντρο Μονοδενδρίου) και φωτογραφίες του βρίσκονται στην μόνιμη συλλογή του Μουσείου Φωτογραφίας Θεσσαλονίκης. Παράλληλα με την προσωπική του δουλειά ο Γιώργος Μάκκας φωτογραφίζει για ελληνικά περιοδικά (Ε, Ταχυδρόμος), έχει συνεργαστεί με ξένα περιοδικά και εφημερίδες IEEE Spectrum (ΗΠΑ), The Guardian, Look (Μεγάλη Βρετανία), iTravel (Κίνα), Vmag (Μαλαισία), Artmagazine (Ουγγαρία) και έχει αναλάβει φωτογραφήσεις για πελάτες στην Ελλάδα και το εξωτερικό AOSpine International (Ελβετία) , Clinical Newswire, MNC Systems (Ιαπωνία), Abergavenny Food Festival (Μεγάλη Βρετανία), internetq , ΗΛΠΑΠ, 50plus hellas, bios (Ελλάδα)
