Providing Clean Water to People in Need | ClearWater Initiative
ClearWater Initiative is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to providing clean water to populations affected by natural or man-made humanitarian emergencies. ClearWater was founded in 2007 by an American soldier deployed to Northern Uganda in support of the Global War on Terrorism. Refugees and internally displaced civilians were slowly returning to their homes after 20 years of civil war, but many were hindered by a lack of access to clean water. Others were moving home and forced to drink from contaminated water sources. Working closely with friends and family, ClearWater was founded to address this very specific need. Applying experience and responsible judgment, we promote simple, innovative solutions to water-related challenges in disasters. We strive to achieve this mission through technical excellence, responsible use of donor funds, and compassion for the needs of individuals overwhelmed by circumstances beyond their control. As a young organization, ClearWater has prioritized projects in Uganda and southern Sudan. We strive to invest at least 90% of our donations directly to support the drilling and repair of boreholes and wells, the construction of protected springs, water storage systems, shallow wells, and related clean water projects.
