AIIrS - THE AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF IRANIAN STUDIES
AIIrs - The American Institute of Iranian Studies is a non-profit, non-governmental overseas research organization. Its members are universities and museums in North America with interests in the study of Iranian culture and civilization. In representing the interests of member organizations the Institute seeks to support the advancement of knowledge and understanding of Iran and Iranian culture and civilization from the earliest periods to the present. The Institute's purview comprises the historical Iranian world of Central Asia, the Middle East and South Asia as well as the modern political state of Iran. The Institute also works with Iranian humanists and social scientists to promote and facilitate their research in the United States and Iran. AIIrS co-sponsors a biennial conference with the Society of Iranian Studies.
The American Institute of Iranian Studies awards fellowships to graduate students, junior faculty members and senior faculty members in the field of Iranian Studies to conduct research and study Persian in Iran. It also awards an annual Persian Translation Prize of $1,500 in the name of Lois Roth for the best translation of a text from Persian to English.
