MoldCool, LLC is a start-up company founded in February 2007 by Kenneth Johnson. The company's mission is to bring to market an advanced injection molding thermolator design that provides a precision thermal energy delivery method in place of the conventional “loop of water” temperature control. Patents have been applied for and are pending regarding this new technology. A prototype has been developed using an existing conventional Conair TW-2 series circulator that has the pump and motor replaced by the new technology "servo driven gear pump". With this new second layer of control added to the conventional first layer of temperature control, a synergistic ability to compute and control the BTU’s being added or removed to the molding process is achieved. This product is anticipated to be a very green energy savings product due to the following: • the inherent ability to tune the flow precisely to the mold and create turbulent flow easily wih pressures up to 100psi • the ability of the servo motor and drive to use only the electrical energy required and "piggyback" the pressure supplied from the central supply chiller • the higher efficiency of a fixed displacement pump without imparting wasted heat (as a centrifugal pump does) that in turn needs to be expensively removed The production model will be constructed to high quality standards for longevity and reliability. All water contact components will be stainless or some other corrosion proof construction. The user interface will employ a touch screen computer linked to a Siemens S7 Series PLC to run the temperature and real time servo controls. Current plans are to bring the Gemini Series EcoTroller production model to market during the second quarter of 2009. Gemini in astrological terms stands for "The Twins", In MoldCool technology it stands for the twin layers of control, Temperature and Flow.
