The Friends series is a continuation of my ongoing abstract landscape series. While the landscape is alive, people add another dimension. Friends add closeness, chemistry and soul to the mix. Friends deepen the landscape even as they are a part of it. In these works, I created pairs to capture the spirit, sensuality and interplay between friends. Specifically, I incorporated layers of hand painted paper, metals, and other materials to create a scale of texture. Then I added contrasting layers of oils, acrylics, and even liquid shoe polish. I finished with glazes to lend depth, movement, and dimension. As in all my abstract landscapes, I give serious consideration to the abstract qualities of the landscape as I render planes, arranging positive and negative spaces, adding texture, and painting color patterns and details.
