Extensive data was collected via a PHP online discussion system from multiple classes for analysis. You can find more information at http://idiscuss.msstate.edu Connection Diversity Measurement ToolThe tool is being developed with Dr. Ed Allen at Mississippi State University. Further help has been given by Dr. T.J. Jankun-Kelly. The goal is to determine if information theory based metrics and visualization apply to network intrusion detection by analyzing network traffic logs to find connections that are more unique. It requires developing a Java and C application for the Army Research Laboratory's (ARL) Network Sciences Division through Electronic Warfare Associates Government Systems, Inc. (EWA). MADAATThe Microarray Data Annotation and Analysis Tool was developed to aid the Mississippi State University Forestry Department with genetic research on poplar trees by providing a data storage and retrieval and reporting mechanism for gene expression data. It was a year long effort split into two semesters. The team consisted of 9-13 team members at any given time. Team members changed between semesters. It was written in C#. However, several problems still remain relatively unsolved. For instance, few music managers or services help group existing songs into a small set of moods or genres, rate existing songs quickly, or provide ratings for new songs based on overall musical tastes. The current status of a work in progress to provide these features using additional information about a user's existing list of songs is presented. Though many methods are examined, the problems are solved by constructing a graph of the songs with similarity metrics between songs and using graph partitioning and nearest neighbor methods for ranking songs. An Analysis of Detailed Software Design Documentation Methods for Object-Oriented Code, April 2009Abstract: Because software design and development is highly collaborative, efficient methods of communication must be used. Over time, the documentation may be the only source of collaboration as designers and developers join and leave the team. Many of the aspects of quality programming languages and software design can also apply to the documentation of detailed software design. Readability, writeability, reliability, and cost of detailed software documentation are all very important factors when evaluating detailed software design documentation methods and tools. A summary of the importance of these qualities in software documentation and an analysis of current tools capabilities in meeting these qualities is done by examining previous works and modern documentation methods. Though an emphasis is placed on current Java documentation methods, the methods described are also applicable to other object-oriented software. Utilizing as many of the tools for source code control for managing documentation within source code comments and using additional supplementary diagrams provides low cost documentation that is useful and easy to maintain.Graph-Based Music Discovery, December 2008The paper describes research based on implementing a graph-based system for visualizing a small world network of artists from a user's music collection, artist meta-data, and associated recommendations from Last.fm. A force-directed layout is used for vertex positioning. Vertex size and color are used to highlight artists that match user-specified criteria. Edges are filtered based on betweenness-centrality to minimize the complexity of the graph. Interactions include changing the highlighting criteria, artist search, zoom, and panning. The zoom implementation filters vertices such that less important vertices are not shown until the visualization is zoomed in further.A Comparison of Programming Languages, December 2008This term paper explains some of the key differences between the Ruby and Scheme programming languages. An emphasis on the readability, writability, and reliability will be used for evaluations. Ruby is a modern language that combines aspects of object-oriented, functional, and imperitve languages. Scheme is an older functional programming language based off of LISP. For this paper, PLT Scheme will be the version used for comparison.ExperienceI have also done web development for several years for a variety of clients.
