Leah Porter
Abstract artist, Leah Porter, was born and raised in Southern Oregon by two well-known landscape artists. She developed a deep appreciation for the elements of the landscape as she joined them on “photo shoots” through the enchanting mountains and countryside of Oregon. Porter absorbed the conversations over the “violet in the shadows” or the “warm yellow light stretching across a field” and since the age of three, often painted along side them in their studio. After graduating with a degree in Fine Art at Western Oregon University in 1998, Porter moved to Portland, Oregon where she painted and exhibited her work in the vibrant art scene in such places as The Black Fish Gallery, and the Laurelwood Art Gallery. Porter moved to San Jose del Cabo, Mexico in 2005 to be a part of it’s internationally esteemed art community and to take advantage of “the Baja’s ever- inspiring light”. After a successful exhibition at the Pez Gordo Gallery, Porter collaborated to open Casa Dahlia ggallery in the Art District of San Jose del Cabo’s historic center. For the past four years her work has been exhibited at Casa Dahlia and is a part of numerous local and international private collections. Powerfully poignant and romantically ethereal, Porter’s paintings are mostly large in scale, pulling the viewer inward and setting the “tone” of an interior space. Often representing a minimal landscape, her work is both meditative in nature, and expressive in color and technique. At a distance, her work possesses a simplistic surface yet upon closer inspection the complex progression of throwing layer upon layer of paint is revealed by thousands of colorful dots.
