Pearl Levy - Born and educated in Montreal, Pearl Levy graduated with a degree in Fine Arts from Université du Québec à Montréal. She had actively pursued an earlier career in drawing and painting, and then gravitated to the three dimensional experience of sculpture. She has had numerous succesfull exhibitions and her works are now well represented in private collections both in Canada, the U. S. and Spain. Her works also reside in the executive offices of Canadian and American corporations. Pearl has, for many years, enjoyed an intellectually rewarding career in the realm of teaching to both anglophones and francophones in the greater Montreal area. Née à Montréal en 1929, Pearl s'initie à l'art depuis 1962. Elle obtient un baccalauréat en arts plastiques de l'UQAM en 1982 et perfectionne sa sculpture en atelier à Pietrasenta, en Italie et au Vermont (USA). Pendant des années, elle enseigne le dessin et la sculpture tout en s'adonnant à la sculpture sur pierre. Elle s'inspire du corps humain, privilégiant en alternance la ligne droite et la courbe, le lisse et le rugueux. Ses compositions quasi-abstraites sont d'un équilibre parfait, majestueuses, parfois lascives. 'My work seeks to represent the strength and frailties of humanity and the ambivalence of our inner feelings. These characteristics blend together to epitomize the perseverance of the human spirit'. 'Mon oeuvre cherche à mettre en évidence la force et la faiblesse de l'homme, ainsi que l'ambivalence de ses sentiments profonds.
