New Portland Dales is nestled in the lovely foothills of central Maine. 90 miles north of Portland and about 2 hours drive inland from the coast the farm is set in the heart of northern New England. The setting is perfect, the views are pretty and relaxing, and the end of the dirt road is very peaceful. Rock walls run along the roadways, white birch and maple trees form a canopy over the road and leave a carpet of yellow and red in the fall.
The Dales Pony stands up to 14.2hh. Their most common color is black, but bay, brown and gray are often found as well. White markings on the legs are allowed up as far as the fetlocks of the hind legs only. A star or a snip is also acceptable. Any other white markings result in downgrading. Long, full manes and tails, and an abundance of feathering around the feet are a trademark of the breed.
