Mountain Brook Club
One hundred and eighty rolling acres in the southern portion of Shades Valley, cupped by two ridges of Shades Mountain, watered by a winding brook, and studded with natural hazards were selected in 1929 by the organization committee of the Mountain Brook Country Club as the setting for the Club House and golf course which now constitutes the properties of Mountain Brook Club. The services of Mr.. Donald Ross, the outstanding golf course architect in the country, and Mr.. Aymar Embury, II, designer of such well-known country clubs as that at Pinehurst and Pine Hills, and at Charlotte, North Carolina, were secured. Under the supervision of these men, and the direction of our leading local architects and designers, the Mountain Brook Club was built and opened for its members during 1929-30. During 1939 the Mountain Brook Country Club was reorganized with the new organization known as Mountain Brook Club acquiring the Club house, the grounds, the golf course and adjacent property.

Manchester Country Club with its magnificent sweeping valley views is located on some of the most beautiful countryside in Southern Vermont. Opened for play in 1970 the course was originally designed by Geoffrey Cornish of Amherst, Massachusetts, a golf course architect of long excellent reputation who at that time was also serving as President of the American Society of Golf Course Architects. A total back nine renovation, completed in 2003, by the original course architect in combination with architect Steve Durkee, resulted in a course that has quickly been recognized as one of the finest in New England. Manchester Country Club is a private club for those who appreciate the beauty of Vermont, a fair but challenging golf course, a calendar full of both golfing and social events and tennis on our two new clay tennis courts.
